There are various segments of American society which deserve a contrite apology from Senator Reid based on the racial comments he has admitted to making. While others have analyzed this boondoggle from many angles, one group which is being overlooked in much of the discussion is the business owners and HR directors who hire according to strict Federal standards across our nation.Based on the judgment of the judicial powers regulating the hiring and firing practices of business, significant fines and punitive awards can result from racial discrimination or harassment in the workplace.
Harry Reid’s observation concerning skin tone and speech dialect would definitely result in a discrimination lawsuit and very likely a serious judgment, had a supervisor or HR employee been documented to have made such remarks. Some may argue “He was simply making a statement of fact concerning Americans’ bias, that they would be more likely to vote for Obama”However, many business owners could argue the same thing regarding positions in which employees interface with the public, but this will never justify discrimination in a court of law:
“It takes light skin and thin lips to be a good bank teller -- at least according to a former personnel officer at the First Alabama Bank in Mobile. The officer's notes, jotted down during interviews, say it all: One prospective teller was described as ‘an attractive white female, blond hair, blue eyes, teller-type appearance.’ Another: ‘very large lips and hips, overweight, dark skin, black girl, her hair is longer than most, appearance is not good enough to meet the public.’
Eventually, officers with the U.S. Department of Labor noticed that few African American applicants ever made it to a position behind the bank's counter. The labor department ordered the bank to pay $225,000 to 132 minority applicants and to hire 15 of them within 18 months.
These days, you'll never see "blacks need not apply" in the help wanted ads. Indeed, many people assume racial discrimination on the job has largely gone the way of Jim Crow laws or "colored only" bus seats. But a close look at factories and offices across the United States tells a different story. In fiscal year 2008, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) received nearly 34,000 complaints of racial discrimination, settled approximately 3,000 cases, and levied more than $79 million in fines, according to the most recent statistics available…”
Chris Woolston, Caremark.com
In this recent circumstance, Harry Reid’s elitist hypocrisy is laid bare.He boasts of his support for employment regulation which leads to stiff fines, loss of businesses or employment, and, in rare cases, even criminal charges for discrimination on the basis of skin tone or dialect, no matter how emphatic the victimizer’s arguments. Reid, and other officials, lay this civic responsibility on others, but will not live by their own standards.Despicable! Both he and Bill Clinton owe many Americans at least a profound apology, and should slink, with head hung low, into quiet retirement.

The story of American politics has a well-known theme, a founding principle meant to insure against tyranny: balance of power. This desperate struggle for balance has consumed so much time and energy that it is often lamented by the ignorant (willful or otherwise).During the so-called “Stimulus” debate, Pres. Obama made a statement similar to many of his other complaints and exhortations:
“I urge Congress to move as quickly as possible on behalf of the American people. For every day we wait or point fingers or drag our feet, more Americans will lose their jobs. More families will lose their savings. More dreams will be deferred and denied. And our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse.”
One White House official stated:
"There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats. We shouldn't let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done."
Other Americans regularly complain of the slowness of our political processes.Historic Conservatives, however, know and feel the absolute necessity of systems and policies which pit competing interests against one another; because we don’t trust human nature.
However, the relationship with this imperative of balance and a greater foundational principle of justice is where we find so much conflict. The civil rights movement of the 1960’s was just such a passionate duel. Those who put State and Local rights above the demands of clear moral justice were on the wrong side of history.Even though we, as Historic Conservatives, may be sympathetic towards arguments made by the defenders of the then status quo, such as Lester Maddox in Atlanta, they can never justify such blatant injustice to stand, simply to uphold a balance of power. So, as those who were clearly disenfranchised appealed to the Federal Government to intervene and upset the balance, and as they eventually responded with force against states, a new momentum was begun upon the pendulum of balance. And as we trace that momentum over the last 40+ years we see a lust for power swelling on the Federal level to such an extent that we now risk an imbalance so severe that we may not be able to correct it.Using the cover of “benefactor” and “protector” they have vigorously and deceitfully accrued wealth and power, completely contrary to our founding principles.
A new, much-needed, civil rights movement has begun, to push back our tottering political system. This movement is infused with a moral and spiritual force not seen in years. We want to restore a healthy balance of power between individual, local and state governments, and the Federal level, knowing that the only alternative is a deadly slide into European socialism, and worse. The tables have turned. If you stand with those in our past who, for clear, undeniable, and noble purposes, called for the balance to be shifted for a season, then walk with us now as we demand that for clear, undeniable, and noble purposes the balance must be properly and justly restored.
As Lester Maddox chose to sell his restaurant in 1965, rather than integrate it, he made a show of his anger by putting a knife in the back of a dummy and adding red paint for effect. He declared to a reporter that it represented the "American free-enterprise system, states' rights and freedom," which he believed were then, because of the Civil Rights Act, "stabbed, bleeding and dying."His freedom to deprive others of their rightful freedom was being curtailed, and he falsely appealed to the principle of balance to argue his position.
But can you see it?The moral weight has shifted! Now those, who in the name of social justice, seek to oppress American citizens through unnecessary and immoral regulation and taxation, using power grabs laid naked for all to see, are as bigoted and foolish as Mr. Maddox was. Now, defenders of states’ rights, freedom, and the free market system possess the overwhelming weight of moral authority, and those who hypocritically present themselves as defenders of “this week’s victim" are standing in the arid moral wasteland once inhabited by the Lester Maddox’s of an earlier time. This new chorus of patriotic voices calling for the return to balance that justice demands are arrayed from every race, ethnicity, color, creed and condition, while their opponents continue to live in a world of racial and ethnic division, using the language of the past, which rings hollow in the America of today!
Hear from one strong, beautiful voice for this new movement:
”So let us not give up the fight no matter how formidable the foe.During the Civil Rights Movement, citizens from all walks of life, races, and nationalities came together, they marched together, they stood together, and some even died together, but ultimately they prevailed. That was their time…this is our time!Let it not be said of us that we allowed freedoms to be stripped away from our hands, under our watch!”
Grasping power and money through envy, he approves.
We plead with you our gracious Lord,
Enlighten him to recognize your Word.
Almighty you are, all wise with love,
Transform his mind; send light from above.
May his advisors, czars, and sycophants,
With tears of repentance humbly advance.
Make them see more clearly through the glass,
Change them and us, so together we pass,
In unity of heart and purpose as one;
For only under You can true unity come!
Answer our cry of hopeful desperation,
And we will respond with thankful celebration!
Amen
Pray Against Pres. Obama and His Minions if They Do Not Repent
Why does our government rage and plot in futility?
Our President takes his stand in feigned invincibility.
His minions gather against the Lord and His Anointed,
Flattering lips concealing actions menacing and disjointed.
They conspire to do injustice to 'free men' through intimidation.
Now Lord enable us to speak your word without trepidation!
They do not recognize their puny size arrayed upon the field,
Oh Lord, laugh at them, and hold them in derision, do not yield.
Rebuke them in your anger and terrify them in your wrath,
Make them rue their rebellion against your wise path.
As you did not spare the angels when they rebelled,
But put them in gloomy dungeons to be held.
Pay back harm for the harm they have done;
They are springs without water, mists driven by storm.
They promise “freedom”, but plot servitude,
“Peace”, when there is no peace; our people delude.
Boasting in pursuit to overtake what is ours,
With greed for our spoils, their eye devours.
Their advancing autocracy crushes communities,
Grinding the faces of those who work, with impunity.
But who among the gods is like you, O Creator,
Swiftly enter into judgment against our leader!
Do not cover up his guilt from your sight,
Then men will say, "Surely the righteous are right,” Confuse them all, O Lord, confound their communication,
Turn the counsel of their advisors into foolish fiction.
They have no fear of God, speaking smooth as butter,
Yet war is in their hearts; their true intentions won’t utter. O Lord, appoint an evil man to oppose them, Let an accuser stand at their right hand to condemn.
When they are tried, let them be found guilty, May their prayers denounce them without pity. May others take their place of leadership in the crowd,
Do not let their plans succeed, or they will remain proud. Let the heads of those oppressing us be covered with shame,
Let them fall into obscurity, never to rise again!
O LORD, you encourage us, and you listen to our cry,
Surely the righteous will praise your name on high. And the upright will cast our cares on the LORD, He will sustain us; we shall see justice restored!
What does a culture in decline look like? Augustine of Hippo who lived in the 300’s A.D. described the corrupt state of the Roman Empire’s political and social structures during its extended period of decay. He saw a correlation between increasingly more degenerate forms of religion and wider social ills. The transition of the Republic into an Empire had taken place hundreds of years prior; the devastating moral and spiritual effects of totalitarianism being inherited by generations born later, as the house of cards was collapsing.
Although we cannot make direct correlations with any historic period and current circumstances, can anyone not see the same pattern of relationships at work in Western Civilization today?Historic Conservatism accepts that human nature does not change, and we can learn from, and be forewarned by, those who have gone before us:
“Yet the worshipers and devotees of those divinities, who take satisfaction, too, in being their imitators when it comes to criminal adventures, are unconcerned that the commonwealth degenerates into an abyss of crime. “So long as it survives,” They say,” So long as it prospers, rich in resources, self-confident in victory, or, better still, secure in peace, what difference does it make to us?” What matters is that there is money to be made to support our lavish style of life, and to give the stronger their hold over the weaker; that the poor treat the wealthy with compliance, to ensure their daily bread- the poor depending on the patronage of the wealthy for a quiet life, the wealthy calling on the poor for support to boost their public standing.Popularity should accrue not to those whose policies promote public welfare, but to the big providers of public entertainment.
Law should not be rigorous; low indulgences should not be proscribed.Rulers should not bother themselves with getting virtuous subjects, simply quiescent ones.Territories should view their rulers not in the light of moral educators, merely as economic managers and purveyors of satisfactions…Sexual satisfactions should be freely available on the open market for those who want them, especially those who cannot afford to maintain facilities privately.Domestic architecture should be expansive and ornate, to accommodate large and lavish parties where anyone may game and dance all night, if he pleases, till he brings it up or sweats it out.The sound of dancing should be heard in every neighborhood, and theaters should be humming with excitement at their course amusements and their various brash and bloodthirsty entertainments.Should someone disapprove of this perfect contentment, he must expect to meet public hostility…shut him up, pack him up, beat him up!‘Religion’ must make a case for itself by guaranteeing and perpetuation these conditions of life for the greatest number of people.”
"Originally: Because if the people be the first author, fountain and efficient under God, of law and king, then their own safety must be principally sought, and their safety must be far above the king, as the safety of a cause, especially of an universal cause, such as is the people, must be more than the safety of one, as Aristotle saith, (1. 3. polit., alias l. 5,) ou meti pephnki to meros uperechon tou pantos "The part cannot be more excellent than the whole;" nor the effect above the cause."
Samuel Rutherford “Lex Rex” 1644
This groundbreaking book written by Historic Conservative Samuel Rutherford means roughly "the law is the prince". He argues for limited government and rule of law in 1644!
God has made us free, we can’t let those with a lust for power push us under their godless system of control. Mr. Rutherford spent years in brutal prisons, because he dared resist the King’s desire to be head of the church, in order to regulate it.Let us follow in his train and declare all unjust government regulation an encroachment on sacred territory; let families govern themselves, churches likewise, and let the government understand its place.First and foremost, the "king" is for the protection of the people; who are the first author, fountain and efficient!
C.S. Lewis was a Historic Conservative in 20th century England beloved by many people around the world of all ages, writing both for adults and children.Mr. Lewis went through an intriguing conversion from atheism to Christianity. Many of his nonfiction books after his conversion were written as part of the culture wars in Britain. They wrestled and debated many of the same issues we’ve face in America over the last 30 years, about 70 years prior.Unfortunately, the outcome in Britain and other European societies was not favorable to Historic Conservatism.
We face a daunting task as the forces of academia, entertainment, and left-wing politics long to follow Europe into the dark age they have entered, the consequences of which are just now being revealed.Lewis’s book “the Abolition of Man” is worth the read, to equip us for this struggle.
"The heart never takes the place of the head: but it can, and should, obey it."
"A great many of those who 'debunk' traditional...values have in the background values of their own which they believe to be immune from the debunking process."
"The preservation of society, and of the species itself, are ends that do not hang on the precarious thread of Reason: they are given by Instinct."
"An open mind, in questions that are not ultimate, is useful. But an open mind about the ultimate foundations either of Theoretical or of Practical Reason is idiocy."
"Wherever any precept of traditional morality is simply challenged to produce its credentials, as though the burden of proof lay on it, we have taken the wrong position."
"No doubt those who really founded modern science were usually those whose love of truth exceeded their love of power."
Historic Conservatives are characterized by descriptive Greek words used by Paul in his letter to the Philippians:
1.alethes (true): true, loving the truth, speaking the truth, truthful
2.semnos (honorable): means worthy of respect or entitled to honor. It is that which inspires reverence or awe. It describes those things which are worthy, venerable, august, noble. The idea pertains to whatever evokes special respect.
3.dikaios (just): equitable (in character or act); by implication, innocent, holy (absolutely or relatively) -- just, meet, right(-eous).
6.euphemos (praiseworthy): well spoken of, i.e. Reputable -- of good report, commendable.
7.arête (virtue): manliness (valor), i.e. Excellence (intrinsic or attributed) -- praise.
8.epainos (praise): laudation; concretely, a commendable thing -- praise.
If our moral compass points us toward words, thoughts, and actions which exemplify these values we will be on the way of wisdom, and, conversely, will oppose that which distracts from these standards.
Of course this is simply one aspect to Historic Conservatism, but to master these will be a lifelong job even for the most blessed of humans. If we reflect these traits we will naturally rise to the top of influence and walk head and shoulders above a corrupt society.
"When emperors enact bad laws on the side of falsehood, as against the truth, those who hold a right faith are approved, and, if they persevere, are crowned; but when the emperors enact good laws on behalf of the truth against falsehood, then those who rage against them are put in fear, and those who understand are reformed"
Augustine of Hippo, (354-430 A.D.)
Historic Conservatives can't take too seriously those who want to define us in contemporary terms only, we are nonplussed by such thinking. To so many around us, relevant history began in the 1960's, or if someone is really "deep", the late 1800's, when Darwinism first roamed the earth. Whichever period is considered the most important dawn of a “new era” becomes their “Genesis”, and whatever came before is necessarily dark and backward. We even have those who believe the greatest era of all was ushered in on Nov. 4, 2008!
The treasure we hold as Historic Conservatives is not locked into one, two, or even many points on a time line, it is a complex thread of devotion twisting and varied in shade, hue, and weight through the entire length of human history, as old as Cain and Able. A binding thread of devotion; to the Creator, revelation, truth, creation, elders, family, children, health, wholeness, order, justice, mercy, country, strength and courage, moral beauty, happiness, etc. We see beyond any human authority, with utmost loyalty, to the true King, before whom all authority and power are accountable. These devotions form the core of our worldview, the rock on which we live and give our lives. Rarely is the chasm of cultural division so distinct than when so-called Progressives flippantly dismiss these devotions and try to drain them from us, to remake us into hollow reflections of our true selves. We can, however, continue to contend confidently; it is impossible for them to change our very nature.
Is the reference to "He" the King of England or our Federal Politicians?
"He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries. He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance. He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation: For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world: For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent: For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury: For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments: For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever. He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us. He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions."
The Declaration of Independence July 4, 1776
Take the time to reread the grievances laid out in the Declaration of Independence, remembering these were the reasons given by the Founders to justify a war against their own nation and king. We cannot let, after so short a time, the system they established to be corrupted into as bad, or worse, a tyrannical regime. They risked their lives, and many gave them, to defend their liberty. Will we not inconvenience or embarrass ourselves to be vocal, committed, active, freedom-loving citizens, risking whatever comes, to peacefully but confidently resist the tyranny of the secular-humanist Progressive machine? Pelosi says "nazi", others scream "racism", and Pres. Obama warns conservatives who believe in state's rights that they are a threat to America…Forget about it!
Are you an American Conservative? A Reagan Conservative? A Christian Conservative? A Jewish Conservative? Historic Conservatism covers all these and more, while contradicting none.
What are the characteristics of Historic Conservatives, from ancient Able to a contemporary today? Principally, the belief in one Creator who holds his creation accountable for their lives and the moral and spiritual state of the posterity they leave behind. This Historic Conservative conviction blurs the arbitrary categorical lines often used to divide fiscal and social conservatism; it encompasses all spheres of society and culture.
Historic Conservatism unites as one trans-epochal movement a densely divers, seemingly disconnected, throng of humans asking the question “how should I live in order to please my Creator”, and then peacefully competing with each other to prove that their answer to that question is the most correct one (wisdom is proved right by her children). Out of this basic presupposition follows a way of wisdom which ties conservatives from all eras together. If we believe in one God than we naturally understand we should be faithful to him. Likewise, if we believe Him to be our judge we intuitively seek to follow our conscience. If we are aware of his presence we take pains to keep our word, honor tradition, or tell the truth. We look to nature for his patterns of life, believing they reflect their maker. We seek freedom to live out this way of wisdom as “wild animals”, rather than live as lap dogs, especially of people we don’t trust. This way of wisdom is a direction booklet of life and has characterized conservatives throughout history.
Historic Conservatives either believe explicitly that there is only one true God, or, in spite of confessing otherwise, live that way. This monotheism is, by its very nature, to one degree or another, intolerant of falsehood; “one true, many false”, pantheism and especially polytheism are, to varying degrees, tolerant; “many true, few false”, while atheism, using the same train of thought, is the most confusingly tolerant “none true so none false (except those who believe in absolute truth)”.
The struggle between health and decay, moral soundness and corruption, has rolled through time, it is not new, and if we can see where we fit into this historic struggle we will be more confident than ever in our calling to resist tyranny and corruption, masquerading as tolerance, and to press on, imitating our forebears with the strength of confident joy!
A gaunt Wolf was almost dead with hunger when he happened to meet a House-dog who was passing by. "Ah, Cousin," said the Dog. "I knew how it would be; your irregular life will soon be the ruin of you. Why do you not work steadily as I do, and get your food regularly given to you?" "I would have no objection," said the Wolf, "if I could only get a place." "I will easily arrange that for you," said the Dog; "come with me to my master and you shall share my work." So the Wolf and the Dog went towards the town together. On the way there the Wolf noticed that the hair on a certain part of the Dog's neck was very much worn away, so he asked him how that had come about. "Oh, it is nothing," said the Dog. "That is only the place where the collar is put on at night to keep me chained up; it chafes a bit, but one soon gets used to it." "Is that all?" said the Wolf. "Then good-bye to you, Master Dog."
Moral: Better hungry and free than fat under socialism. Lovers of Freedom are like the rattler or the wolf; living as God has created them while at the same time characterized as dangerous, willing to risk failure in order to achieve success, and ready to push back when provoked..."DON'T TREAD ON US!"
The Shortsighted Groom
It happened that a young man attended a village dance one autumn evening, the time of year when the sun is early to retire each day. In the candle-lit hall his eyes lay on a particular woman who, while not the best specimen at the occasion, was very much to his liking. Although he had been raised by a sober and levelheaded mother, he found himself attracted to more boisterous and frivolous women, such as this shrew. Rarely had he seen such long and thick hair, such red lips, or fine straight teeth.
After a few hours of revelry, and not a few cordials, he though to himself “This heifer is by all counts better than any I have had before, and I must take advantage of this opportunity while the bird is in my hand.”
Without further consideration, before all the guests, and much to the delight of many, he loudly proclaimed his love for his partner, and, going down on one knee, asked for her hand in marriage. After teasingly upbraiding him and feigning reluctance, the girlfriend, with a bold laugh, accepted the proposal.
As luck would have it, a minister lived nearby, and, with all appropriate necessities dispatched, they retired to a local inn for their wedding night. What a night it was, and, before he knew it, his eyelids were leaking tiny shafts of morning sun. Opening his eyes with the slight amnesia of waking in a strange place, especially after a night spent in a mild stupor, he turned to look at his bed partner.
Now his eyes were quick to pop open, as well as his mouth, when he saw his new bride. In place of her thick mane of gold were wilted locks barely able to cover a blotched scalp, her lips and cheeks were of a ghastly color, and the teeth, which had been so white and straight, were lying on the table staring at him.
“Why surprised”, said his new spouse, “You were so anxious to believe your eyes that you wouldn't wait for the illuminating light of day to investigate and ask questions concerning the reality of your commitment.”
Moral: There are more ways to lie than with words, and we readily fall for a lie when it seems to be to our benefit. A certain Madame Speaker is herself a living parable, with a face which belies her age, but curiously not her warped mind, being eerily slightly nonhuman. This represents the fallacies of her political policies, which masquerade as authentic, all the while propped up by regular injections of liberal "propagandotox" in the minds of the citizens.
